Vain’Af

Vain'Af: four artists united in their passion for music and inspired by the rich musical traditions and the rhythms of southwest Madagascar.

Vain’Af was born in Tuléar, a city of vibrant heat on the southwest coast of Madagascar. By creating authentic, energetic music, and by amplifying the voices of Malagasy youth, the group quickly established itself on the local music scene. Since then they have performed across the island, including at the leading venues in the capital, Antananarivo, where they developed a devoted fan base. In 2021, the band recorded their first album, produced by Maximin Njava.

On stage, Vain’Af deploys a contagious energy. Standing out for its unique style, the group fuses modern punk/pop-rock with traditional southern rhythms: frenetic tsapiky and proud banaiky. The result is a powerful sound, innovative and danceable, where the roughness of rock meets deep cultural roots, reflecting the raw, festive energy of the region.

The goal of Vain’Af is to make the voice of the South heard. Addressing deep themes – struggle, transformation, cultural heritage and identity affirmation – their lyrics describe the daily realities of life: oppressive heat, poverty, hardship, insecurity and the fight for dignity.
